We also believe that everyone should have equal legal representation in any legal matter they may encounter.  The legal process and system should not discriminate against individuals because they cannot afford the cost of an attorney.  For persons charged with a crime, the majority of these individuals are plead out and never go to trial -- approximately 95% -- which means they end up in prison or, sometimes, on probation, regardless of guilt or innocence.

The legal process is extremely intimidating.  Having to deal with a legal issue is stressful enough by itself; having to navigate through the legal system without any knowledge about the process nor having a lawyer to assist them with their legal issue creates a much more stressful and potentially harmful situation for that individual.  Many individuals give up their fight for their constitutionally-given human or civil rights because they do not know what to do, and no one is willing to assist them.  Destination:  Freedom advocates for the rights of these individuals.

Constitutionally, individuals are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.  Our justice system is in dire need of repair.  Destination:  Freedom seeks to change the criminal justice and judicial landscape by working with volunteers, supporters, other nonprofit organizations, and state legislatures.
